Events at North Kent RSPB Reserves

We invite you to take a closer look at one of the best wildlife areas in England – this programme provides a chance to find out more about the North Kent Marshes and there is something here for all ages and interests.

Some 300,000 water birds use the North Kent Marshes each year, an international airport for birds moving between places as far apart as South Africa and the Arctic.  However, it’s not just birds and wildlife, the landscape of the area features expansive views across the marshes and the Thames and has many cultural links including references in the works of Charles Dickens who lived locally.

The RSPB has added to established sites such as Northward Hill and Elmley Marshes, with the acquisition of Cliffe Pools in 2001.  Almost immediately the RSPB and local community found themselves fighting the threat of an airport on this area and thanks to a huge national campaign with local support, the threat was defeated in 2004.

Cliffe Pools will now be developed into the flagship visitor site for North Kent Marshes, with a major visitor and education centre.

All events are free, but booking is required on some events
