Nestboxes

Nestboxes, like birds, come in all shapes and sizes. The most common type found in gardens in usually aimed at Blue Tits and Great Tits, but a whole range of birds can be encouraged to nest in your garden with the right nestbox.

The RSPB sells a range of nestboxes, or you can make your own. You don't need to be a great carpenter and plans can be found at http://www.rspb.org.uk/gardens/nestboxsmallbird/index.asp

The best time to put them up is from the Autumn to the week of St. Valentines Day. If you already have existing nestboxes, this is also the best time to clean them out; but be careful, there may be bats roosting in them.
