Garden Birds

Feeding and watching the birds in our gardens is usually the trigger that gets us interested in birds. From there we then start to venture further afield to country parks, nature reserves and the big wild, untamed countryside.

But in these days of urban sprawl, new roads and railways the countryside is coming under a lot of pressure. Gardens are now a major resource for the survival of our birds. More and more birds that were once not thought to be garden birds are appearing at the feeders and bird-tables.

Identification of these species is generally very easy for the common garden birds such as Blackbird, House Sparrow or Starling. But what about Siskin, Spotted Flycatcher or Treecreeper? For experienced birders they should present no problem, but beginners require a little help. This is normally found in the form of a field guide, but there are websites with some excellent photos that can also help. Try these sites;
