the RSPB Medway local group
If you are interested in birdwatching, or other
environmental matters, in north Kent this is
the place to see the latest news.
As a local
group our aims mirror those set out by the RSPB.
 | To promote knowledge of
conservation through education, particularly at a local level. |
 | To promote the aims and
objectives of the RSPB at a local level. |
 | To recruit members for the RSPB. |
 | To raise funds to enable the
society to carry out its conservation work. |
To meet those
aims we;
 | Organise a programme of indoor
and outdoor events |
 | Issue a regular newsletter. |
 | Assist on local reserves with
work parties and helping out at special events. |
 | Attend local events, fetes,
shows. |
 | Sell RSPB goods at local events. |
 | Sell birdfood. |
 | Raise funds by means of raffles
etc at indoor meetings. |
 | Focus particularly on those RSPB
reserves within our area (Elmley, Northward Hill and Cliffe Pools). |
The history of the group
 | The group was formed in 1974 and
celebrates its 35th year in 2009. |
 | It was one of the earliest groups
to be set up in the country. |
 | Encompasses a rich wildlife area
that includes the Isle of Sheppey,
Hoo
Peninsula
, the Swale and the Medway Estuary as well as areas of the
North Downs
. |
 | Regularly attracts 60-90 members
at indoor meetings. |
 | Runs a programme of outdoor walks
on wildlife sites across
Kent
. |
 | Organises coach trips to reserves
further afield, including
France
. |
We hold our meetings on the third Tuesday
of every month (apart from August) at Strood Library.
Doors open at 7:00pm and the meetings
start at 7:45pm and run until 10:00pm
Refreshments are free and there is also a raffle.
Admission price — £2.50 RSPB Medway Local Group members, £3.00 non-members.
